This week we were hosted for date night at Taverna Rossa, one of Plano's most coveted restaurants for some delicious Italian with a Texas flair. If you are looking for on-tap craft beers, a kick-ass happy hour, live music and gourmet food with excellent service (shoutout to Hank), Taverna Rossa should be a top contender for your next date night, GNO ( Ladies' Night is Tuesday with 1/2 price wine bottles 👀) or post work pit stop.
Upon walking into the restaurant, you are met with a warm/cozy vibe and the smells of the fresh food cooking from the semi open kitchen. We immediately knew anything that we ordered would be great and started off the night with an order of the "Four Lil Pigs" which are pork lollipops in sweet chili sauce dressed with cilantro, sesame, cashews and sriracha aioli atop kale. 😋 Let's just say I don't think we spoke one word to each other while we savored the flavor of each deliciously tender and moist bite. 😂
We also ordered Ma's Meatballs which has a 33 meat blend of Beef, Pork & Veal in a bed of marinara, topped with Pecorinoco Romano cheese and garnished with fresh basil and a Warm Taverna Pretzel with Queso and Frito's because we were two little pigs. 🐖😂😉 The meatballs truly tasted like there was a 97 year old Sicilian-Italian Grandmother full of heart, wine and passion in the kitchen hand-rolling and seasoning the dish - so authentic and so pure. Every bite was scrumptious and left us wanting more.
Chris and I had to make a firm rule: we can not bring these home for fear it will cause a divorce. I can see it now.. it's the middle of the night, he's hungry, warms some up . The genuine Italian aroma wakes me up from my sleep and I am devastated to find he ate them all. I am too petty and unforgiving when it comes to good food and this dish was DAMN good! 🤤

You know we had to wash everything down with two signature cocktails from the bar - The Speakeasy and the Lemon Basil Crush! The Lemon Basil Crush had me itching for summer in no time. It's light refreshing taste reminded me of a tart lemonade but the basil balances it out leaving every sip with a smooth finish. I can't wait to enjoy this drink when it warms up on their patio overlooking the waterfront. The Speakeasy 🥃 (held in the picture at the top) reminded me a bit of an Old Fashioned but better. It was the perfect balance between flavor and smoke, great for a cold January night and complimented well with "Four Lil Pigs". For whiskey lovers, they also have quite the selection which you can see in the gallery below.
I have to say from the moment we arrived to the moment we left, we truly felt at home. Taverna Rossa is definitely worth the visit and hey, if you feel like staying home, you're in luck - they are on UberEats!
